I know there's no drugs and alcohol allowed at Shannon's grave, that's why I said then that we better not party there, I was just thinking out loud always good to post a reminder though I didn't mean to offend you in any way Barb so I hope I didn't it's just that there are SO many people who already know the rules and come with beer, spirits, weed, and worse and many of them have been arrested. I don't want to see that happen to anyone else. Plus the cops in Dayton, which consists in all seriousness of 1 main street, are waiting and watching for a reason to shut the Vigil down. Nel has fought with them for many years as they, until 3 years ago, even refused to even let her put a port-o-potty out there for the weekend! They hate us and will use anything they can to get rid of us. I'm just usually one of the folks she asks to pass around the rules each year for the newcomers. If anyone has any questions I would be happy to answer or get an answer for you from Nel herself if I don't know it. SOBER VIGILING! #hoonsmiley#

DON'T THEY HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO AND TAKE CARE OF??!! wtf Actually, no, they don't have anything better to do because there's only 1 friggin street! They probably wait all year to eff with us again but they have done everything from pretending to be us selling weed, buying and busting, all kinds of stuff but 90% of the people don't break the rules. The 10% is what's making it harder for the rest of us. One year they pulled over every car as it left the vigil Saturday night and searched them. Some folks got in trouble. Anyway, if I hear of anything else in particular Nel wants passed around I'll be sure to pop in here and let you all know. #hoonsmiley#

Yeah, we got harassed on our way out from the cemetary in 04 too, thought I was going to jail for sure Those cops are dicks and they hate the vigil... I also wanted to add a note to say NO LITTERING! Youd think that's common sense but last year people kept coming back and thrashing the place and because of them poor Brandy and her family got harassed by the cops and forced to hit the road in the wee hours of the morning b/c the Cemetary caretaker was complaining about the mess. Everything was taken care of before the deadline given by the cops, otherwise they said the vigil would be no more (not sure that they have the power to stop people from coming to the cemetary but they sure can make everything a lot harder... and plus... the least we can do is have some respect for all the other families that have loved ones there, if not for mother nature herself) Take your personal belongings and thrash with you when you leave... it's that simple!

I grew up in Dayton so I know your right.. they dont have much better to do. Truth is I quit drinkin like 12 years ago...was just commenting that if anyone wanted to hang out "legally" I know some good spots on the crick "thats creek to all the non hoosiers" . I am not in no way tryin' to detract from it...matter of fact since you all know her... let her know I am willing to help her with anything she needs before or after the vigil. I can P.M. contact info if she does. ßrìçk

Good one Gabby....we have trash recepticles out there but most importantly please put out cigarettes and then throw them in the trash. Brandy busted her ass along with Nel and some others cleaning them up as well so please take care of your trash. BTW Gabby....jag and I made it out of the cemetary in 2004 literally 2 minutes before they started checking the cars! We didn't have anything but I think I might have had 1/2 a joint at the time in my purse. The funny thing is I NEVER drink or smoke until I leave the vigil for the night. NEVER! Not sure why I had it on me....

Brick, dont worry about it. No one expects people not to party (lord knows melons are party animals ) it's just that it needs to be done off the cemetery. Thats what the Knights Inn is there for right? Good job staying sober btw, it takes a lot of will. Diana, Im so glad you didnt get busted! That year was retarded... They were driving around with dogs just waiting for the first people out of the cemetery to bust them. I dont think there were any incidents this year though, am I right? I didnt hear of any arrests thank God, but on Friday there were rumors that there was an undercover around

The cops in 04 sounds like a reeeaaal pain in the ass.. That's gotta suck! I'm glad they were easier last year and hopefully this year too. I know there was at least one undercover cop walking around last year,I can't remember if it was Friday or Saturday. Someone pointed him out to me and several others. Warned people not buy any drugs if he tries to sell..

One was from Canada (not Murph's crew) and will never come back for fear of getting arrested! I'm not sure about the cars but heard a few got citations for misdemeanor weed posession. Pay the fine I imagine. That's when Nel started asking folks to keep it dry at the cemetary.

So how's the atmosphere on the off chance I have to bring my son along? Sober obviously is great, but are the cops openly nasty or just small town hick cops? Don't want my kid to get the wrong idea about them, they rock in our town.

The kids will be fine~ I'm sure Nel will be thrilled!Last year there were lots of kids most named Shannon it was so funny to hear the parents calling out to them. Although at their age I hope they dont get bored.Bring lots of stuff whatever they are into.Make sure to bring markers or paint so they can spend some time decorating rocks to leave for Shannon.Or something more creative. You get the idea.I love having kids around that really makes it more like a family gathering.
