Well I'm new to this forum, but a long time fan. I grew up in Columbus, MS and have seen the band twice. The first was a show in Columbus in 92' I think. I stole my email address/screen name (soulgruv) from the name of the opening band at that show. The second was at a college in IL in 94'. I got to hang out on the bus for a while after the show. It was interesting to see the inside of the bus. I'm rather excited to say I will be seeing the show in Davenport Iowa in a few weeks. In 94' I was a strung-out single guy with more weed than common sense. Now I'm married, a dad twice over and a regular worker bee for "the man". I'm still amazed by the music. On a desert island with 2 CD's: Soup and Jar of Flies (no flies in the soup jokes) Favorite BM song: Walk. I can't play any sort of musical instrument, but I did get a cheap harp and learn to play along. I can completely relate to the lyrics.
Thanks for visiting.

Welcome to the melon patch. I too will be at the Davenport show...but it will be my first live show with the guys, never got the chance to see Shannon. What was the bus experience like? We always love a good melon related story here!

Most of the things I remember are probably not of interest to most folks. I remember Glen smoking some god-awful cigarettes in a black box. I think they were labeled "Black Death". Truth in advertising I guess. Speaking of Glen He was a few years older than me and someone should ask him about putting furniture on the roof of the school. I remember that Brad was the one that invited me and a friend to get on the bus. Very cool by the way. They were in a hurry to get going but they hung out for another hour or so. They sent me to the back where Shannon was listening to Meat Puppets. After talking to him for a while, I went back up front where Rogers and Brad were delighted with the offerings that someone thrown on stage. Christopher didn't say much. All of them where nice enough to autograph my backstage pass. (It was a big sticker)
At the time I didn't think much of the experience. Yeah I was feeling pretty cool on a tour bus, but I knew where a few of these guys came from and it felt comfortable. Looking back, I find myself most impressed with how "regular" they were. I find the same quality in their music. The first album for me is home. The second was released while I was struggling to clean up my act, and Nico after I had. While I didn't necessarily relate to Shannon, I felt a little like I made it through and he didn't.
Wow, that was more than I intended to write when I sat down. I look forward to the Davenport show. I know the venue and it will be more intimate than the Columbus Civic center where I first saw them.

Cool, thanks for the story. You would be surprised at how something you don't think is that interesting is the coolest thing ever for someone else. Happens around here all the time!
