I'd be interested to see if the band has anything to do with it. There's some labels, such as Plain Recordings, that puts out reissues that use the CD as the master and they sound horrible.SRC generally releases remastered reissues where the analog master is used as the source, as in the Soup reissue, so even if the band doesn't approve of it the record will sound amazing. I could never justify spending over $200 for an original pressing, so this has been a long time wish for me.
I don't really post here as much as I did a few years ago, but wanted to get the word out about Soup being reissued on vinyl by SRC. They do really good work; I've bought some Jimmy Eat World reissues they've done. It's $29.99 and currently on preorder.
I met Brad and had a chance to chat with him briefly before AJ played at the BBQ on the River Festival in Paducah, KY on Saturday. I asked him if there's any talk about doing a 20th anniversary of Soup vinyl release next year, possibly for record store day. He DID say that there has been discussion, but he did express that if it did happen it there would need to be a demand for it. I added that the self titled did well when it was released for record store day, with him adding that the run for that release was only 2,000. I told him that the original Soup vinyl goes for as high as $300 on eBay. He said, "Really, it was released on vinyl back in the day? I don't even have one." Later saying, "Yeah, I've probably got one somewhere at the house." So I guess there's some hope out there. There are talks being done, so that's good. I guess we will just have to wait until April of 2015. Matt, have you heard anything about a vinyl release?
Got my vinyl! Stood in line at 6:30 am in 30 degree weather, waiting for the store to open at 8. Glad I got there early because I was the 17th person in line, with about 50 people behind me. It was a mad dash for the RSD releases once the doors opened.
Got mine today!!!!!! Wow, it is amazing to hear Mother the way it was intended to sound all along!!!!
I agree. The first track I listened to was Mother wearing a good set of headphones. Almost brought tears to my eyes. Glad the EP has finally been released the way Shannon wanted it. I hope sales are well enough where we'll get some more treasures in the future.
Here's a little secret as to how I've gotten limited RSD releases in the past. I just call up my local record store and ask them to hold whatever records I'm looking for. That way when I got to the record store on the morning of RSD, I don't have to climb over people and hope the vinyl will still be on the shelf. I just wait in line to go up to the counter and tell them I have an order on hold.
Generally the eBay sellers will get to dollar immediately after RSD, but a month or so after the prices will come back down to what they were selling for in the stores. I know the folks at RSD are going to be a lot stricter with the stores they send the exclusive RSD product to this year, to try and discourage people reselling stuff.
Yesterday on the official Blind Melon facebook page this was posted:
