brown the beef in a pan, drain out the extra grease, open a can of "manwich" , pour it in with the meat and stir. Most people serve it with some sort of potato... tater tots, potato skins, potato wedges, fries, etc. Although, sloppy joes wasn't the first thing that came to my mind for an american meal, it's still a good choice, lol.

I'm with Shana, If you want to make real sloppy joes you have to use the manwich, and I like a hamburger pickle slice on mine.

Yeah, I've only ever used the sauce out of cans, either Manwich or just generic "Sloppy Joe Sauce." I wouldn't know what to use to just make it without the can.... Tomato sauce with some sort of seasonings, I guess, but different from spaghetti or pizza sauces.

I think hamburgers and fries for american food. Anyways don't listen to that crazy talk about using that canned crap. Heres the recipe I've been using for years
1 pound lean ground beef 1/4 cup chopped onion 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard 3/4 cup ketchup 3 teaspoons brown sugar salt to taste ground black pepper to taste
1. In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, onion, and green pepper; drain off liquids. 2. Stir in the garlic powder, mustard, ketchup, and brown sugar; mix thoroughly. Reduce heat, and simmer for 30 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
I personally like to toast my hamburgers buns and put a little cheese on them.

"sloppy joes" sound disgusting, 'sloppy' is definately not a pun for this food.

For an easy meal I do the Manwich thing which isn't that spectacular of a meal. (When I make it I like to serve it with sweet corn and it's also good if you mix the corn into the meat). If you want to make it as good as possible I would use an online resource like bogo recommended. I used these sites frequently: www.foodnetwork.comwww.allrecipes.comwww.cooks.comThe websites that have reviews are nice b/c you can read what people who actually tried the recipe thought of it...plus in the reviews people typically give advice of what they added to make it better so you can easily tweak the recipe to how you like it.

so how did it come out gabbee Oops, I forgot all about this thread!! The beef was already cooked so I went ahead and used Manwich which I have to agree with you, it did not taste like the real thing! I like the sounds of your recipe though so Im making that next ;D Thanks everyone for your input! I know burgers and fries is more "American" than anything but we have that in Brazil too (and just about everywhere in the world). After living here for a few years when I think of good food that we dont really have in Brazil I think of Sloppy Joes, Peanut Butter and Meatball Sanwhiches (ok, we have meatballs but I had NEVER even heard of meatball sandwiches!! I love em though )
