Very cool item. Especially if legit. Though I would rather have a playable vinyl copy of Soup at that price. LOL

Shit I got a playable copy of Soup on vinyl for $100 so it wasn't even half as expensive as this... I'm still the high bidder... I'm sort of wondering what's gonna happen with this.

Well, as long as everyone here vows to not give me shit for what I just did... I got my bonus check at work the other day so I kinda-sorta-maybe spent a majority of it on a certain 12" that I swore I was going to stop bidding on. Well guess what people I WON THE AUCTION!!!
I will never actually admit how much it was but it was close to what Matt said. And if you think that's crazy to have spent that all I can say is that something like this comes up once in a lifetime. Me being the HUGE collector I am I figured I should take the oppurtunity with this because we'll probably not see it again. I think I've reached the peak of Melon merch by now but this one was just something I couldn't pass up!! I don't think I'll play it but instead frame it and have it be my most valuable piece of Melon merch!!
Now I've got the full collection of Melon vinyl, too!! S/T, Soup, Galaxie 10" and 12", Change 12" picture disc, Change/I Wonder 45, No Rain/Tones of Home 45 and now Sippin' Time Sessions 12"!!!
Blind Melon truly is the gift that keeps on giving. Every time I think I've collected everything there is to collect another piece of merch pops up that is AWESOME and I end up pouncing on it.
I feel good about the purchase even though the money didn't go to the band... maybe on day this will be released on CD anyway...

That's like the 3rd time it's shown up on eBay. Unless there's more than one out there.

Well done! I've only ever seen another one of these once on ebay before (and I've been searching "Blind Melon" into ebay.com.au and ebay.com at least once a fortnight for about 13 years now What a score! Would be awesome if you could find a place to play it (and make a high res dub of it at the same time).. I'd love to hear "Mother" (one of my favourite Melon songs) with master quality! Pretty sure you have the rarest Blind Melon item there is (aside from Shannons Galaxie )...

Thanks you all. I am really excited to have won this because I have been collecting Melon stuff and vinyl records in general for awhile now. When I Saw this originally it floored me because I had no idea there was such an item out there! It is one of the rarest things I've ever seen and I can't believe I got a hold of it!! Now the only other Melon item(s) I would like to have that I don't have - that are extremely rare - are the "Soup can" promo thing and the Andy Warhol-esque Soup shirt that I saw on eBay 3 or 4 years ago (went for like $200+ I believe) and I've never seen it again.
As far as dubbing the record I was thinking about that but I currently don't have the technology to do so. My record player is jsut standard, not USB compatible. Down the line if I Get a USB-compatible record player I would most likely make a copy but I wouldn't be spreading it around everywhere because I realize the band doesn't neccessarily want everyone hearing it. I think the copy that is in circulation now is pretty good and the version of "Mother" I have on my PC right now (thanks to MATT for sending it to me) is probably the highest quality you'd get anyway. The only reason to make a different dub of the vinyl is because the version of "Dear Ol' Dad" from the Sippin' Time Sessions I have on my PC is missing the first few moments. I'd have to actually hear the record to know how it sounds or if it sounds any different and frankly I'm kind of worried about ever playing this record because of it's fragile nature. I think for now I'll keep it protected and eventually will give it a spin just to hear it through... I might not be able to hold out but I don't want to ruin the record or my needle neccessarily so I'll most likely frame the record anyway.
It's really mind-blowing when you think of all the cool stuff Blind Melon did and all the awesome merch of theirs that came out in that period of time. I only wish there was still compilations and reissues coming out like major labels seem to do with every other band under the sun. Why do we need reissues of all these god awful artists/bands over and over again but we haven't seen any reissues of Melon (deluxe editions, vinyl reissues, etc). I think it would be amazing if Capitol would reissue the first album as a deluxe with a bonus CD that includes all the Sippin' Time Sessions content. I know that'd also be up to the band but it's just an idea... or to see a Soup reissue with some of the extras like "Frosting a Cake" and "Ever Had the Feeling" that were never released. I'm still waiting to hear that acoustic "Vernie" that was mentioned in the Devil/Angel book!! I'm sure there are hidden treasures out there that we have not heard and I'm hoping since the next few years will be an anniversary of sorts for Melon there will be something in the works. To reissue the vinyls would be a HUGE draw because people are always looking for them on eBay and why should $100-$200 go to some random person instead of the band? I don't really know how all this works in terms of legal stuff and the band's relationship with Capitol so I'm really talking out of my ass but these are all just thoughts I'd have lately.
Anyway, the record should be arriving in the next few days... definitely a great addition to my collection!!

Whatever you do, DON'T play it on one of those USB turntables..... The styli are usually very cheap, and the sound quality is awful. See if you can hook up with a studio (maybe Brad can help? You need a place like what is shown in the newish "Pressing the Record" Abandon Jalopy clip) and get them to transfer it (hopefully) to high res digital. That would be the way to go, played back on the proper gear, will preserve the life of the acetate and give you the best sound quality. ....I wouldn't even play records from my own collection on the majority of one of those USB turntables, unless it was one from a respected brand. I know 'Project' make one. Even then, it would be best not to play the acetate on one..

I'm totally with you on all of your thoughts! I'd especially love to see 'Nico' on vinyl I have UK and US copies of S/T and Soup (and an asian press of the S/T also. As well as the Tones 12" and No Rain 7" yellow press.. Nico never saw a release on the format. Bring on deluxe issues!!
