I Know we have 6 Months or so to go but I like to plan ahead. I have yet to attend the Vigil & being there, meeting Shannon's endearing Family & finally getting to meet all of you, my Blind melon Family, would be a tear jerking Dream Come True ;D. Does anyone know the Official dates for this year? Shannon's actual Birthday falls on a Monday. I know I read it starts on whatever date the Saturday falls on, this year that's the 24th. So to verify, would that mean the 24th,25th,26th? I had also read, at one time the Vigil was Aired Live & people that could not physically attend could still be there online & possibly interact with those in attendance. Is that something that could still be done? I'm just exploring any & all options at this time & trying to cover all bases. Any information would greatly Appreciated Lisa

YES!! That sooo Amazing ;D. Thank You! Is anyone planning on going, that's in New York or even a State or 2 away? I can take a Train or something to you & chip in for expenses . Again I know it's early but just to have an idea of my options would really ease my mind. Lisa

YAY Lisa! I sent your PM before I read this thread, so glad it's looking like a possibility for ya The actual vigil is only on Saturday, so yes, it'd be the 24th of September this year. But most people get there the night before, so there's a pre-vigil gathering that night and then a lot of people stay Sunday night too, since that is when Vigilstock takes place. So, ideally, you should plan for the whole weekend, but if you can't, at least be there on Saturday! About the vigil broadcast, I think maybe you got that confused with the "online vigil"? There has never been a broadcast that I'm aware of, and the online vigil is simply a group of melons that can't make it to Indiana (usually from all over the world) who all get online at once to chat while the vigil is going on so they can feel like they are in a way being a part of it and paying their tribute to Shannon. Good luck with everything and keep us posted!

Wow, Thank you ALL, for the quick response & valuable information! holyman47, I'm sorry you can't make it & even more sorry about your financial situation . I can identify with that. How I wish we could go back to a simpler time & bring back the Barter System. melonhead1784, I think you should just move to New York . If all goes well, I look forward to meeting you & can't wait to hear you play! Gabbee, Yes the post I read was from a very long time ago. Thank You for clearing that up for me ! If I can go, I will definitely go for the entire celebration and Absorb & Cherish each and every second. Lisa

It would be the weekend of the 23, 24, 25th of September. Wow I would love to come but air fares are quite expensive and I need to save up a lot.... my birthday's on the 23rd Sept so would have been even more special! Well one of these years I'll make the trip always wanted to so will have to make a plan for sure would love to have the chance to hang out with fellow devout melonheads! ;D Edit: maybe we should think about setting up an annual Melon music festival in celebration of Shannons life where the vigil is the focal point and BM headline.... I mean thinking fairly small scale here with a handful of likeminded bands in a small field somewhere in the middle of nowhere. bliss

Hey billdemonn, That would an extra Incredible Birthday for you, to go to the Vigil & celebrate both of you & Shannon's life ! I don't know what State your in but when it gets a bit closer to the time of the Vigil, people post to share a ride with others & chip in for the cost of the trip. For more details in full, check out {on the Home page} Vigil discussion, click it & then you'll see a thread that says: Vigil FAQS. That has all the information anyone could possibly want to know plus extras . So don't give up hope yet, you never know what magic could be stirring up in the air ;D. Lisa

Vigil was the next day and to top it off we still had another great year of vigilstock sunday night to finish the weekend off right. It was quite the weekend and I hope it can be done again some day. I like the idea of it being in a small field in the middle of nowhere too. Good luck on your journey, hope we get the opportunity to meet and celebrate your birthday with you

Lisa Hey Lisa.... actually yeah it would be flippin amazing but unfortunately I'm located in a small island state called the UK so prices to get across the pond are a bit restrictive but hey I'm sure one of these days I'll get over no doubt! ;-) Anyway, positive thoughts are all conquering so with that in mind I'll be seeing ya a bit later on in the year! ;-)

Well I'll have to find out the next time that happens and make a deal with the devil (my bank manager lol)! :-) P.S. Middle of nowhere would be amazing away from it all with only like minded souls, music and wine to soak it all up without any interference. You guys have some great open spaces in the States - how about somewhere like the location of Burning man festival or the like... I think middle of nowhere desert would work really well: 'and the sand blew in my eyes' (deserted).

Greeting folks!
Wow,this place sure has grown. Almost 4000 members. That is amazing!
Vigil 08 sure was special, and so was 2007(my first!). The walk I made from the car to Shannon's for the very first time is still something I think about very often and remember as something very beautiful. It was so unreal in a way.. The whole Vigil experience is something totally unique. I haven't made it back since 08 but this year it's happening. Finally!.. I can't wait to meet all you people that I haven't met yet and of course all my friends here that I miss very much..
See you fellow Melonheads in 6 months..
Peace

Joel, I can definately Relate to Your story of that first "walk" towards Shannons Grave...I will Never forget That Walk either. Its something I Had waited on for a LONG TIME! Vigil was Everything I expected it to be and So Much More. I Havent been since 2005, But This September...IF I AM BREATHING, THEN I AM TRAVELING! Its a Nice Haul from Tennessee, But I Have done it Before and This Year I Shall Do it again!
