Hey boys and girls!
Well, a few more hours and I''ll be jumping up and down during the Pearl Jam concert here in Holland!!! Last year they were also here and the setlist was awesome, they rocked big big big time! So no doubt that i would go again.
SO I was listing a lot to PJ last weeks to be sure I max enjoy tonight.. but I think I posted soemthing about PJ and Blind melon before.. about the tribute bee-girl song..
But when I read the lyrics they are fucking rude to our beloved Bee-girl.. So I wonder if there is some friction between Pearl Jam and dude Vedder against Blind Melon..?? I dont get the lyrics and I dont get it why he made that song.. other songs are great but if they play Bee-girl I swear i'll kick his head.
Anyway, anybody knows anything about it, or why this song was made..? What do other Melonheads think about it? ANyway, I would have hoped that this Vedder boy would have made a proper tribute to the band Blind Melon and Shannon! He deserves the respect by bands like PJ.
Anyway, didn't happen. PJ is cool, Melon is way cooler haha
I'll be thinking of all PJ lovers while I am out having fun!
Paul
BTW The request from Glenn about the setlist is absolutely awesome and I will make one, although I have to think about it another week ahah can't make a decision.. And 8th July we'll have a mini Melon meet here in The Netherlands with two girls on the forum here! We'll be playing max Melon and drink Melon tea haha Check love you all!

Yeah PJ are fantastic live... I saw them last November down here... I would hardly call her our beloved Bee-Girl... The band members in numerous magazine articles after the success of No Rain on Mtv expressed how they wanted the Bee-Girl dead... I personally agree because that video falsely portrayed the band and brought false expectations upon them as to their style of music, when in essence no other song in their catalogue in particular the first album, was anything like the song... Sure it is a bloody good song, but the video was wrongfully attached to the band portraying the Bee-girl as an integral part, a mascot if you will, which she clearly wasnt... In an interview with Shannon he said something along the lines of "that girl was so fucking annoying" (the one who played the Bee-Girl in the video)(Check out Greg's Avatar on his posts for the exact quote...lol)... Check out this pic from a series of photos which Rolling Stone didnt allow to be shown...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bee_GirlThe song was written originally about the girl (Heather DeLoach) who was famously featured in the video for Blind Melon's hit single "No Rain".
Before performing the song at the 1994 Bridge School Benefit concert, singer Eddie Vedder commented on how they "saw really bad things for her future."[1] Further, in a 1996 radio interview he explained, "The Bee Girl was...she was this little girl who was 9 years old in a video and I saw her, I saw how...there's no other word for it--how obnoxious she was and she loved being a star...and I knew it wasn't going to last and my heart went out to her and I was just trying to tell her, ‘Man, that ain't the most important thing in life. It can't be. You're gonna die.’"[2]
Vedder explained in the liner notes for Lost Dogs that he once met the young girl and her mother. His information on the song closes with the sentence, "I hope she's fine."

check yo man! always makes me remember...love it every time I don't find the lyrics that rude. The first part is, kinda, but the second part is mostly positive. It also makes much more sense now that I read what Matt posted. Have fun at the show and don't forget to write a full report of the show! Hope you take some pics too ;D edit: I feel like moving this thread but I don't know if it should be moved to the Blind Melon or Tones Of Home section

By the way... in 2000 during a huge rockfestival in Denmark 8 ppl got killed by pushing crowd.. One of them was a Dutchie.. Last week they played for 1st. again in Denmark and during this show he invited the family of this guy... Then he honoured him and played Better men...
The crowd got silent and after that rocked the place. Incredible... we had no rainfall, sunshine, beers, joints.. It was really incredible..
I have this major hang over now and keep thinking about last night... How many of you have seen PJ live?? This was my second show in 2 years.
Ciao amigos
Paul

It's cool that they closed the show with Yellow Ledbetter, that's my favorite Pearl Jam song. I would have been disappointed as well that they didn't play Black. That's my 2nd favorite. I saw them live twice, once in 1992 and once around 1998. I'm glad you had a great time Paul!

I saw them in '98, I believe at the Pyramid in Memphis. I hate the pyramid, we had crappy seats, but it was a great concert I'd love to see them again. Glad you had fun!

Amsterdam, I can't believe they didn't play Marker In the Sand. I think that's the grooviest song on the new album. I woulda kinda been pissed if they didnn't at least play that one, but then again it's PJ!!!!!!!

But this time it was outside and before the PJ we had 3 other bands performing.. Incubus, Kings of Leon and another band.. but mann it really got me into the mood... it was definately awesome.. I am still into it.. the day after. hehe He also started to play with a tamborine.. and smashed like 4 of them.. made me think of Shannon during Deserted @ Woodstock, btw a very very good part from BM!! Anyway, gotta go again, i might post some later again. And the pic from shannon with the axe is scary!!!! Yeah, well I dont care the bee-girl.. i love the way they laugh at her and at the end of the clip she finds all the other bee's... it reminds me of unity and it reminds me of being yourself and get out there... a unity like we are here! I love that! Otherwise it could have been any other type of mascot..or whatever you call it. Peace and love music! Rock music heheh ;-)

Ciao amigos Paul I could have seen them 3 years ago, but the week b4 they were to play near me, the Rolling Stones (40 licks tour i think) who never played this part of our country played. I chose them over PJ....cause who knows how long Keith will be around. so my funds were depleted far beyond being able to go to the PJ show.... next time around for sure!!! sounds like they are back to really kick'n out the Jams. and i'm diggin it. I'm glad you had a blast Paul. Drink lots of water ;D
