My grandparents were missionaries in Highgate, Jamaica for a number of years and I lived with them for the summer of 2001. I fell in love with the place and the people. It is so beautiful, yet is so steeped in poverty. The laid back attitude and general feeling of love that I get being there, makes me want to be in that place forever.

I went to Boscobel about 10 years ago with my family. I loved it too...it was absolutely beautiful and the ocean was so clean and clear...I would love to go back someday I would like to visit the Bob Marley museum

Congratulations on being voted Melon-of-the-Month! While there were many deserving nominees (as always), I was very happy to see you be voted M.O.T.M. Thanks for all of the great contributions you have made to the Forum. I know we all appreciate your positive vibes around this place!
Here are my questions:
(1) When/where did you first hear the music of Blind Melon?
(2) Do you have any pets?
(3) Have you ever been to Breckenridge, CO. (I'm sure plenty of people ask you that, just like when people ask me if I am related to Conway Twitty)
(4) When you lived in Jamaica that summer, did you ever start to understand the thick patois? I know most of the time, I was pretty lost on what people were saying (unless they were making a concerted effort to be understood by me, in which case they would dumb it down so I could grasp what was being said).

I know most of the time, I was pretty lost on what people were saying (unless they were making a concerted effort to be understood by me, in which case they would dumb it down so I could grasp what was being said). Thanks, Ryan, my Jamaica buddy! Lets see, I first heard Blind Melon when I was in 7th grade. It would have been 1993. I saw the No Rain video when it debuted and loved it. My parents listened to alot of great 60s/70s music and it reminded me of that. I had an older best friend that I said "hey I just heard this great song, you have to hear it!" to. When I told her the song, she laughed and said her Uncle in California just heard this band and that they were amazing. So, we ran to the store and bought the self titled. From then on, we were melonheads. As soon as Soup was released, we got that too. She committed suicide 2 months before Shannon died. I listened to the music for both comfort and celebration. Then when Shannon died, I couldn't listen to it for a while. From the day he died until the day Nico came out, I didn't listen to them. It was too much. By then, enough time had passed and I could listen again. So, I bought Nico and Blind Melon has been in my permanent playlist since. (Sorry for being so heavy, but that is my story) Yes, I have pets. I have twin cats, a boy and a girl, Marley and Ziggie. I also have a ferret named, Squishy. We had another ferret, but sadly, Bo left us a few months ago. Squishy is kind of ancient, so when she goes we plan on getting a dog, maybe a husky. No, I haven't been to Breckenridge, CO, but I would love to go. I really enjoy the Breckenridge beer! I recommend the Vanilla Porter. As for the patois, it can be impossible!! I could pick up some commonly used phrases near the end, but if they didn't want me to know what they were saying (or forgot I didn't speak patois), I would have no clue! It was more difficult for me to understand when I was in Highgate vs Ocho Rios since that part is so poor and uneducated. Great questions from everyone, I am really enjoying answering these!

[glow=red,2,300]8. The Carpenters- The Singles[/glow] That was kind of a surprise in your list! I love The Carpenter's..I used to sing some Carpenter karaoke!! I'm trying to learn guitar too...so I feel you on that one. My question: Do you believe in God? Yeah, I love the Carpenters. My Mom loves them, so I grew up listening to them all the time. I think Karen had an amazing voice, really unique. For me, it isn't Christmas until I hear the Carpenters christmas album. Yes, I believe in God. I guess I will put myself out there and tell you what I believe. I believe that God, Budda, Alah, etc. are the same. I don't believe that one religion is better then any other, to me it is all the same God, just called something different and worshiped in a different way. I consider myself an Evolutionary Creationist. I don't think faith and science have to be mutually exclusive. I personally think it is pretty presumptuous of us (man) to think we know what a day constitutes to God. For all we know a day to God is 24 million years. So, even if God created Earth, all the evolution can and did take place because time is irrelevent. A "day" was put there to give some way for our minds to grasp the creation. This is just what I have come to conclude over the years. Thanks for sharing Breck:)

Sorry about your friend Ryanne.
My questions...
What do you do for a living?
What's your dream job?
What's your biggest dream (in general) or something you want to accomplish in life most? (can be two different answers)
Congrats on being the M.O.M.! You definitely deserve it!

Breck, do you have any special Valentine's Day plans? What are some of your favorite books? I didn't have any special Valentine's Day plans. I worked a track meet all day and then just had a low key dinner and movie at home with my girlfriend. Some of my favorite books are: Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom, Between A Rock And A Hard Place: The Aron Ralston Story by Aron Ralston, and a sci-fi fantasy novel called The Crystal Shard by R.A. Salvatore. I cried my eyes out at the first book. The second book is the story of the rock climber/hiker Aron Ralston and how he stays alive when he becomes trapped by a boulder during a climb in Utah. What the human body can endure amazes me. The third book is in the same vein as Lord of the Rings, so if you are into that kind of book, I highly recommend The Crystal Shard.

(can be two different answers) Congrats on being the M.O.M.! You definitely deserve it! Thanks, Barb!! I work as a Certified Athletic Trainer. It is kind of like a Physical Therapist combined with an EMT. I work primarily college athletes, taking care of injuries they recieve during play, rehabing them after injury or surgery, to name a few things we do. We see some pretty grusome injuries!! My dream job would be actually the job I have now, just with alot more pay!! However, I would rather just win the lottery and never work again! Just travel everywhere, follow my favorite bands and see the world. Maybe write some reviews on the side. My biggest dream or accomplishment that I hope to achieve, is to be published. I would like to take some of the research I am doing/have done and expand it so it could be published in a journal. Something that if someone reads it, it could help them. Either that or finally learn how to play the guitar well! ;D
