Okay, I just listened to Paper, Rock, Tweezers. I heard... "Ooh, there's not a worry In this place we call a home" The only way that interpretation makes sense in the context is if you think of it as a conversation between him and the girl/woman who took him in when he was trying to get clean...like he says "My head's in the gutter" and then she replies, "There's not a worry in this place we call a home". That's how I understood it anyway...like she's telling him she's going to take care of him if he stays with her. As for the rest of the song... I had a hard time. I'm going to have to listen to it some more. In this part: I hear the word "beauty" instead of "be" but I don't know if that's right and I don't know what he says afterwards. The other parts I'm totally unsure of. I'm hearing the same thing that you're hearing.

I just made some changes to CSU after listening to the demo version...
One major difference is that I changed "it reminds me of a country song" to "it reminds me of a Guthrie song". Honestly, I'm glad I was wrong about the country song part, I didn't like that part b/c I don't like country music. It makes so much more sense that it's Guthrie b/c Travis obviously digs folk music. ;D (Woody Guthrie is the folk artist who wrote "This Land Is Your Land" for those who don't know him by name). Travis clearly sings "Guthrie" in the demo version.

Wow, I can't believe I never noticed he says "Guthrie"! I too didn't like that line when I thought it was "country". I also just noticed that that line we're stuck on - on the demo version it sounds like "____ clues" instead of "blues". That line is still really bothering me.

I haven't checked out the demo version but I would have sworn that he said country. I'll have to check the demo version out. If I remember, I'll ask him at one of the shows.

I seriously almost posted this same thing the other day but I was unsure so I decided not to. I'm glad you said something. It's driving me crazy too. I definitely don't hear the letter 'b' in that word on the demo version. I thought it sounded like "clues" too. On the final version, it could be either one, I'm just not sure. Karen, I went back and listened to the final version of CSU after hearing the Guthrie line and it's harder to make out b/c of the instruments, but you can pick it out if you listen closely.

I asked Travis about the one lyric from CSU that we couldn't figure out. I'm about to update the CSU post with what he told us.
Here is the chorus now that we've filled in the blanks...

Please elaborate on "the fuss about Bob Dylan". I honestly don't know a lot about Dylan's music other than the covers I've heard by other musicians. I can never get past Dylan's voice even though I absolutely recognize his songwriting talent and his importance and legendary role in the history of American music. What connection are you making between Travis' songs and Bob Dylan? I know Travis considers Dylan one of his musical influences but beyond that I don't know anything else on that topic.

From what I understand, Jerad wanted to say that Travis' lyrics are just way better than Dylan's. I never got into Dylan either, I do recognize his importance in the history of music but his singing style/music never got enough of my interest to even give more attention to the lyrics...except for the most known songs that I was "forced" to hear all the time didn't mean that in a bad way, I do like A LOT some of his songs.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I see. I think I was reading it wrong. I agree, I very much prefer Travis' songs to Bob Dylan's. I know some people will have a problem with me saying that and I know that without Bob Dylan's influence Travis' songs might sound totally different, but to each their own. I am also a person who honestly doesn't dig The Beatles. It's funny because most of the music I listen to is heavily influenced by The Beatles...I just can't seem to get into more than a couple of Beatles songs.

What about the White Album Sonya? I didn't like The Beatles that much before the day I heard the White Album. It TOTALLY changed my whole idea and opinion about them, one of best albums ever for me!
