Sorry cessna but I loved the last album...If Guns N Roses can keep their name and have 3 million hits on their myspace in one day, I think that 4 out of 5 is good enough for Blind Melon to live on. Plus like Nel and the guys said, this is a way to honor the past (Shannon) and move on to the future. I'm not sure if you saw these guys live the past year with Travis, but it was magical to hear the new and old songs live. Never thought I would get that chance so I am glad that Blind Melon continued. Just my opinion though... i appreciate your opinion but i think its less based on actual merit of the album and more on your blind love of the band. just be honest...anything they put out with anyone singing would probably be awesome to you even if deep down you really thought it sucked. i on the other hand can admit when even my favorite artists muddle their library with a shit song or two or ten...in this case that last melon album TO ME felt forced and bland...maybe thats just because shannon wasn't there...but knowing what Rogers has done with Extra Virgin and Chris and Brad did with Unified Theory...these guys are in my humblest of opinions really selling themselves short by continuing this Melon thing. I would much rather see the 4 of them get together with an amazing singer like Chris Shinn and come up with something fresh... I remember when that Unified Theory album came out...it was such a departure from the Blind Melon sound that to me...it was just...like hitting the freezing cold swimming pool on a hot summer day... and as far as guns and roses go...bad example...have you heard anything they are putting out? it sucks donkey balls...its not guns and roses...you can call it guns and roses...axl can call it guns and roses...but its not...guns and roses without slash, duff and izzy is just...axl rose... no disrespect to Robin Finck...hes a great guitar player...but he didnt write the licks or the leads to a single GNR song worth remembering...

I would much rather see the 4 of them get together with an amazing singer like Chris Shinn and come up with something fresh... not trying to argue or anything bud. but u've written this a few time now. I'm not sure what u mean by fresh? i think everytime these guys do do something different, so to me that's always fresh. U cannot compare any of the 3.5 albums, and say one is like the next. They were all different, yet it was all melon. I think u put Shinn w/ the 4 guys, then called them Pealing Bananas. i think, the results would end up the same. They'd all just wanna make good music together. They'd still be working offa the same history and chemistry, have the same influences they had yesterday. I'm not sure the end product would be any different under any other name. perhaps i'm offa my rock, but this is how i'm thinking on this one.

Really? I didn't get that all all. To me it had an overall positive message and I honestly felt the excitement coming through that they must have had recording it. I listened to it on daily basis songs like "Father Time, Last Laugh, and For My Friends" were instant love affairs. I really think this was a great album.

I dont know cessna I have really enjoyed the new album and hearing Travis sing the old catalog live was really great. Unfortunately I have no comparison b/c I never saw Hoon and Blind Melon play, but I really dig the new stuff. You don't like any of it? With the Right Set of Eyes or even Hypnotized? I thought the guys were definitely heading into the right direction and I was really anticipating the next album. As for the GNR thing you are right that is a bad example, but I would like to challenge you to check out For My Friends again. It is a good album that is different from all the other shit today...

Melon greatness thats what... I am 115% with you on this feeling...I could never get through the last album because it just isn't Blind Melon to me...beat me up for it but...that's just how I feel. I think musically these guys can do WAY better and that the last album was just kinda....ehhh i think the music was there but the vocals and lyrical content/delivery were forced.

seriously. i like UT's albums better than BM. so...to have shinn even considered for the spot gives me chills.
he's got the talent, songwriting and energy to pull it off....not to mention the best voice since buckley.

Oh I know what this means.....or maybe it's just an homage to the New Years' show?

Really? I didn't get that all all. To me it had an overall positive message and I honestly felt the excitement coming through that they must have had recording it. I listened to it on daily basis songs like "Father Time, Last Laugh, and For My Friends" were instant love affairs. I really think this was a great album. Positive message...okay...I'll give you that but that's like saying Jelly is sweet...of course it's sweet...it's jelly. It's not like they would put out an album that gave a negative vibe. My point however was missed. I am not saying that musically the album was bad. Here is what I will say... Musically when I first heard Blind Melon I dug it instantly...the vocals grabbed me, the lyrics spoke to me...the music moved me...it was the first Blind Melon album that REALLY got me into music and the reason I picked up a guitar... The second album pushed the bar for me...it set a new standard and despite poor reviews by critics and the general media I loved it. Every second of every song. Cut to 1995 and Shannon passes away. I instantly wanted the guys to continue as Blind Melon...find a new singer and keep rocking...then Unified Theory comes around and REALLY sets the bar for me WAY higher than Blind Melon ever did. Brad and Chris really were a force on that album. Chris Shinn and Dave Krusen with them really kinda changed my musical taste. I started branching out...listening to different music...because that album was SO different from anything that Brad and Chris did with Blind Melon. Now cut to 2006 and I hear Blind Melon is reforming with a new lead singer and I check it out...upon first listen I was really hoping that they would push that envelope and do something completely different and really drive it home...6 or 7 songs in I realized that I dont remember a single thing I heard and that..."wow...this just isn't grabbing me" We have two Blind Melon studio albums WITH Shannon to go by...one with Travis...listen to the first album, then the second, then the third...the first album was very jam bandish, twangy with a little bit of classic rock feel...great lyrics, great licks...it's a classic...there is no disputing that The second album was VERY different...use of alot of cool effects...different producer...different studio...different instruments...lots of layered sound...very warm full tones...and even better lyrics and vocals... Listening to the third album feels kinda like...I dunno I guess the best thing I can compare it to is the Soup demos. It just lacked...what it lacked I can only describe as "mmmph" I know how to describe it. It was soup without salt...not for me...

1. if chris shinn fronts the band will it be chris joining BM or rogers and glen joining unified theory ? 2. some women have testosterone, just look at linda perry 3. how about brad fronting the band? also guns n' roses aint really guns n' roses without izzy !
