don't you think matt that he wouldn't even want to join blind melon, from what I know about him from what people have told me hes really into his own thing? I think you kinda answered your own question there... I know he's steppin' in to help his buddies out. But, to take on the task of singing Blind Melon songs, and not being into Blind Melon? Doesn't make sense to me. His solo career really seemed at a hault. 4 newer songs came out not too long ago. Yet, he still decided to come aboard. I have total faith in Chris... He has all of my support. If it's a temp job, then so be it. I don't think Chris would agree to sing for Blind Melon if he really didn't like Blind Melon. i wasn't meaning that he didn't like blind melon, i know hes has to but obviously he has no problem filling in, but your really into him, do you see him wanting to be the permanent singer of the band?

No, I don't see him staying on full time, as much as I would like it.
I guess I quoted the wrong guy...
allthatineed said "He was never into melon"...
My bad Cody. I really meant to quote him.

I thought u were meaning quote him, i just didnt want you to think that i was meaning by him joining blind melon that he didnt like their "style" its all good.

Despite all I've said, bring Travis back.

TTW is/was a member of Blind Melon...If he doesnt come back I will be crushed...Lets get serious Travis is/was a big part of Blind Melon and not having him here now will seriously hurt this band. Yes I will welcome Chris and am excited about everyone's post about him, but Travis T Warren brought the guys back together and losing him hurts. This sucks tremendously on all levels...and i cant imagine the music that will be missed by this break up..Not as bad as the music missed by Hoon's untimely death but definitely gonna be missed. I look forward to TTW's solo album but wish that he could have changed his ways about his opportunity with Blind Melon. It makes you wonder about the lyrics and thinking about all of this makes me sick and disgusted, but I will try to stay positive and support everyone because what they gave us the last two years has been nothing short of amazing!

You put this so well!! I wish they would just work it out...make up and get back to what they do. We love them and miss them as a band, as a whole. I have been depressed all weekend over it.

just trying to shed some light...
there's always bands that you listen to or don't pick up on until much later. at the time where Blind Melon were in their original form, they weren't a band that was on Chris Shinn's radar.
as soon as he met Christopher & Brad, he went out and baught the 3 records and discovered the band from there.
it's not that he didn't like Blind Melon or "wasn't into'em", he just wasn't listening to them at the time.
Yes, Chris' music & influence on the UT music is unmistakable and more "modern". As some of you know, he's recently been recording a covers album in Nashville with some of the sickest studio musicians ever. He does songs from his influences growing up (along with a few originals). You'll hear some George Jones & Nina Simone in there. This guy is EXTREMELY diverse and listens to a wide range of music. To pidgeon hole him in one sound is underestimating the guy.
I won't trash Travis, but if you couldn't read between the lines, I'm busting at the seems knowing Chris is in the picture. This is coming from a 32 year old Melonhead from the earliest of days.
Chris can do it all... Check out these links... (I recorded this in Toronto, listen to his voice at the end...the video is deceiving...so powerful) (the Nashville Sessions)
ps: If Chris didn't want it, he wouldn't be doing it. He was approached to compete on "Rockstar Supernova" and declined. He also declined an offer to sing in Wes Borland's band "Eat The Day" because he just wasn't into it.

Despite the things Travis did wrong, the apparent threatening to quit multiple times, leaving the band hanging not knowing if hed show up, and refusing to communicate at the end, maybe travis seeen the writing on the wall. That he was in this band for the long haul, and maybe he didnt want to continue down that path...I cant see this being rectified, and it hurts. IMO this is the best singer for the band. Just the way it all came together just seemed like a blessing, and it was, With that said, I dont see them coming back together with Travis. The band apparently put up with alot along the way, and couldnt do it anymore...I am so thankful for these last couple years. Im skeptical about Chapter 3, sorry to be a downer about the future guys

thanks for those links Yves... im totally floored... i always though Chris was amazing, but this just proves it 10-fold... with influences such as Elizabeth Fraser and Bjork, not to mention Nina Simone, id die to hear what he could add to Blind Melon with this diverse list of inspirations...

Basically - it seems simple to me - if the BAND thinks Chris is the right choice - no matter how much he was or was not into BM - isn't THAT all that matters and shouldn't we trust THEM that he IS the right choice?
Why worry about this stuff - they would not have chosen him if they did not think he would fit, even for a while..right???

The idea of Cris Shinn becoming a permanent member is really confusing to me. I am a HUGE UT/Shinn fan, when UT was around I traveled all over the country to see them. I still feel they are a very underrated band, I felt their music was going to set the tone of rock music for the new milenium. There is not an ounce of doubt in my mind that he has the talent to sing BM songs.
That being said, Chris Shinn came from a VERY different background than the rest of the band and Shannon. Their background is the perspective that most of the songs originated from.
The thing that i liked about Travis is I felt he could really relate to the BM songs. Like most of us here he grew up with BM being the soundtrack to his life. To me, that is what gave his performances an authenticity that I could believe in. Even the drama going on now is paralell to the struggles captured in the music.
I still have hopes that they work things out with Travis. If they don't and Chris joins I would be happy to see them play.

If Chris Shinn is just the guy who will fill in the gap while they search for a permanent replacement, I would rather him not even go out with them. Travis was a great fit, he is a fan. Maybe the best replacement is waiting to be discovered? Maybe the next person is one of us out in the crowd? But please, please do not take the INXS route to find this person. That would be a hard pill to swallow.
My vote goes to working it out w/ Travis.

I would love to see Travis come back to the band. But, of course, I am supporting Blind Melon no matter who they bring on board.
We had an employee once that nearly got fired because he was only giving about 60%, always late, missing days at work. They finally threatened to fire him and actually suspended him 2 days. He changed. He is now our best employee and gives 110%.
Also interested in seeing Chris sing Blind Melon songs.
