Umm,, it is actually easier to get vinyl than it ever has been in the last decade at the moment. I HOPE THiS GETS A VINYL RELEASE. I have the first two on vinyl, and SOUP in particular kills the cd in sound quality. Last year, 90% of my new music purchases were on vinyl, Dinosaur Jr, White Stripes, Silversun Pickups, Spoon, Built to Spill - all their latest albums! In ALL cases (especially White Stripes and Built to Spill) the vinyl owned over the cd. It's in the mastering, and the fact that you cant compress the dynamic range to make the cd LOUD as much on vinyl, as you can on cd.... This mastering trend has ruined many albums for me over the last 5 years... Louder is not better. Vinyl is still valid, and actually on the rise again It's great! I have hunted around the net, but havent read anything about the new album on vinyl... BUT hopefully a boutique label will pick it up and release in on the format.

I really hope Blind Melon releases For My Friends on vinyl. Ol, you're lucky to have the first 2 Blind Melon releases on vinyl, I think I'm too late in the game to get those without breaking the bank. Greg and I just started collecting vinyl. We kept talking about how most of the music we listen to would sound so much better on vinyl...then Greg inherited around 100 old '45s from his Grandma who just passed away. In addition to that, I have had a small stack of vinyl collecting dust for the past decade and when we combined all of those reasons together we felt justified to splurge on a turntable so we could listen to everything. Now I'm finally able to listen to a few Odelay era Beck singles with a bunch of remixes that sound KICKASS! I hope more bands start releasing vinyl. There is definitely a market for it. I think I'll start a thread for the vinyl collectors in the house... EDIT: Here is the thread I just made for vinyl collectors blindmelons.proboards19.com/v45index.cgi?board=music&action=display&thread=3537

Vinyl does some things for me.
It satisfies that child part in me that would spend hours looking at my dad's vinyl collection. The artwork both mesmerized me and scared me (my dad was a hippie and some of that stuff is trippy when your a kid). It is art that can become another kind of art. I like to hang my bestest albums on the wall and vinyls jackets are great art. Sound. Sound. Sound. The hiss crackle and pop of vinyl gives me goose bumps.
All that being said, I will have at least 2 copies of For My Friends. The digital not passed around and rencoded 45 times version from the band and the cd that comes with the preorder (i think of that as stored uncompressed audio on a silver platter). I'll get vinyl if available.
My 3 cents.
Peace.

The only place to find either vinyl albums or even a turntable here in Tampa is at flea markets or maybe antique stores, so to say they are making a "comeback" might be a bit much. And the albums that you do find won't be anything that's been made in the past 10 years or more at least. I will just stick to those CD and MP3 players, as well as my cordless phone and microwave oven that they finally invented.

Lol, thank you anyway Rogers. And I prefer to listen to you guys on a CD or MP3 player anyway, after getting rid of my turntable along with my mullet and parachute pants in the late 80's.

Hey Chrispy, most people also left their affinity for David Lee Roth in the 80's...other people are still quoting him in their forum signature in the year 2008. Think about it....it goes both ways. See how it feels?
There's plenty of stuff that people in this forum could rip on you about, but we don't. I suggest you go find a thread where you can discuss things you actually DO like, instead of ripping on things you DON'T like and insulting other people's hobbies.
If you aren't into vinyl, that's cool...but it's not cool for you to rip on other people who are into it. Let's try to be mature enough to not throw out insults at people who don't like exactly the same things that you like.
If you don't have anything nice to say about something, how about not saying anything at all?

Man, if I was going about saying that there's nowhere in my town to find "whatever" and then the guitarist for my favorite band shows up and responds to my post, personally, I would take the time to check out the link that he provided instead of ignoring his response to my statement.
But hey, that's just me. . . . ;D

I think it is really cool they take the time to respond with their busy schedules... On a side note, I attempted to contact the label via their contact page and the email bounced back. Was asking them if they were planning on a vinyl release. Based on the fact that none of the other releases on their site are offered on vinyl, I doubt it. I know times are different in the music industry right now. How bout a small run for us diehards? Man, if I was going about saying that there's nowhere in my town to find "whatever" and then the guitarist for my favorite band shows up and responds to my post, personally, I would take the time to check out the link that he provided instead of ignoring his response to my statement. It would be amazing if they released this on vinyl. I am a collector as well and have the first 2 on vinyl. I so wished they would have released Nico on vinyl. I have the enhanced CD, but there is just something about hearing songs on vinyl that is just better. (IMO) A friend suggested that there might be places where you can take a CD and have it pressed, but I don't know about cost or anything. My friend said his Dad did it to replace some of his collection that were warped in a fire. Just a thought.
