The show was excellent, more than I could have ever hoped for! Met everybody in the band, got lots of birthday hugs and wishes, and pics....Not to mention Travis gave me a personal shout out and Glen gave me his set list for a birthday gift! Talk about incredible! I'll post later......didn't get home til four a.m. Up at 6:30, kids all day, and now my teenager is in a play!! No videos unfortunately from me!!! It was the most amazing night and the greatest birthday ever!!!!!!!!

yeah chickie i heard travis wish a happy birthday to someone and i assumed it was you. i actually saw you after the show getting autographs and stuff but i didn't say anything because i wasn't too sure it was you. i thought i remembered you saying it was your 40 something birthday.....but you look like you're 25. but the show was awesome. i wasn't sure if i was going to go till wednesday. i have been out partying every night this week which kind of took it's toll yesterday. i don't really drink coffee but i drank this huge cup on the way to the show which sucked because i had to piss every half hour. i got there about 6 30 and there were about ten people from indiana waiting outside already. they all had hoon vigil shirts on and i heard one say they were form lafayette. and there was a girl with her boyfriend there who i think is on the forum, but again, i wasn't sure who it was and would have felt kinda funny if they had no idea what i was talking about. but the doors didn't open till 8 so my room mate who came with me and i went to look around to get a drink. we started walking down the street and then i saw glenn talking on his cell phone. i didn't bug him though because he didn't look like he wanted to be. then we just headed back because the fatigue started to set in and figured a drink wouldn't be the best idea. So we went back, sat, and waited. I wanted to fall asleep but then we could hear the band doing their sound check....soak the sin, skinned and one or two other songs, it was nice. The doors finally opened. The opening bands we're ok. The first one was a local band and the second one was dusty rhodes. The second band definitely had a little more showmanship and a stranger lead singer than the first band. And then it finally happened. Blind melon came out and kicked ass. The set list was pretty much the same as usual except they threw in make a difference. That and 'time' i thought were by far the best songs of the night. I don't know a thing about drumming, but glen really kicked ass in both those songs. They really stretched out 'time' and peaked it out. It was great. After the show I just wanted to leave. It was 12 30 and it was a three hour drive back to st. louis and I knew i wasn't going to be able to do it all because i was practically delirious at this point. BUT my room mate stopped me and was like "You're going to wake up in the morning and regret this if you don't go try and get their autographs." So sure enough I went and met them all. They were all very nice and took pics and signed stuff. Five mintues after i met the band we started to drive back and i got pulled over by a cop. I only had two beers so I wasn't worried. He started testing me to see if i was drunk etc etc. The cop gave me a warning and gave me directions on how to get back he wasn't that bad. But it still sucked, i don't really smoke but i needed one after that. I didn't see to many people that I recognized though. Nel was there and gave a little talk towards the end about how she supported the band, everyone cheered real loud. I think the girl who was on the tribute album was there. I thought I had a Bogo sighting too but when I looked closer it wasn't him. There was also this guy there who looked almost exactly like shannon hoon, they had to be related. And now i'm getting tired of typing. I will post the pics soon but now i'm going out

shit I almost forgot...........I had 3 tix to the show, but one of my buddies got sick and could not go.......so when I couldn't find anyone else to use the extra.........I gave it to one of the canopy security guys sitting outside by the smoking area and told him to give it to someone who didn't have a ticket.............I saw the guy later and asked if he ever found anyone who needed it...........he said he did....................SO if you got a free ticket from a security guy it was prolly from me.........hope you enjoyed the show!!

CHICKIE!! what up?? did you guys have a safe drive home? And what is this i hear of you staying and getting autographs?! you went all out on your birthday, which will never be forgotten. let me know how those pics turned out, i still can't believe we met the band!!! and its all on you for that, i owe you....
one minute im buying pizza, the next minute im hearing them practicing at 5:30, and the next minute they walk outside right by us!!
and i will never forget when Brad Smith walked out of the doors and walked straight up to me and asked if i had a cigarette.... i had plenty. and when the tour manager(i think) said he had one for him, i basically threw my pack at Brad, telling him that this would be news to tell my buddies. he asked what kind of cigs they were, and i said 27's... he said 20 cents?? for this cigarette? back when i was a kid it was ten cents!!! Brad, you are the man.
Loved every moment of the canopy club... my friend from high school was in the local band, lead guitarist who did very well... dusty roads was something different for sure, but the violinist stole the thunder... funny look to the band that cannot be forgotten either....
then i have so little to say about melon, except they were perfect, atleast from my view in the front row, where i shook rogers hand twice, chris' once, and brad's once.
I thought it was funny when glen asked me where he could find a really good hippie/healthy food place, but i had nothing to point to but a pizza place that he rejected.. oh well, i was nervous...
oh and me and CHICKIE might be in the video documentary!! meeting colleen was great! she is such a wonderful spirit.
keep on rockin', melon!

After taking this pic Glen said something like....."God taking pictures is weird." (moderators, feel free to please resize this, i couldn't seem to get it any smaller) Rogers walked down the long hallway and had a huge smile on his face. I asked him to sign something and told him that we appreciated him coming to the forum. He asked what my name was on the forum and i told him. And he said "Oooohhhh yeaaaahh Ok" he clearly had no idea who I was, trying to bullshit the bullshitter But he was a cool cat, very nice. That's one of those "official" bootlegs I think Matt and Brad talked about in their interview, it's from italy. I picked it up in a record store a month or two ago and it's the only melon thing i had where i'm living. Obviously Travis couldn't sign it...so I brought a blank cd and had him sign it. I'm going to put my fav trav songs on there or maybe the new album. My friend and I each got a shirt. In the tag area each one had a different quote. It reads......."Sitting on the back porch with Travis has been one of the strange moments I've had in a long time, we were just hanging out, smoking cigs, and talking, yet it was the only time since Shannon died that I felt a shift in the path I should be taking. To honor the past, to often it ...... and let the chemistry take hold." Brad S. Sorry the last sentence is tough to make out. Did anyone else get a shirt with a quote from a different member? I'm sure i'll post a little more about the concert as I remember the little things. I can't say I go to too many concerts these days and I just forgot how much fun they are. It was such a beautiful drive down even though it started to rain in Urbana. My room mate who went with me and doesn't own a single melon cd said it was one of the best shows he has ever been to, it was funny because when they played the new songs he knew all the words and it felt like we were the only two in the place who were singing along. The crowd was great and the band members looked really happy on stage. For two tickets I paid 26 bucks, what a bargain. I'm gonna mess around with the photos from the show and see if I can get em to look any better. Maybe i'll send them to Barb and she can do something.

god I wish they would play near me, I really want one of those shirts with quotes on them. how much was it if you don't mind me asking, I was gonna wait till the second leg of the tour to worry about tshirts but these quote shirts seem like they could be limited to the first leg only.

We got there an hour and a half before the doors were going to open...my husband wasn't sure what to do to fill the time..HE'S not a Melonhead like me. I said "let's find that tour bus". We parked as near to it as we could get, I jumped out and started scoping the scene. Spotted Travis right away, he was on his cell so I couldn't interrupt. Rogers got off the bus right as I was getting to it, only could see the back of him but could recognize that hat immediately...he zipped right into the long hall that led to the backdoor for the stage. Travis soon followed still on the phone. My friend Randy and I just planted ourselves there at the end. My husband and other friend that came with us decided to go find a bar to pass the time. We got to listen to the band warming up or sound checking...Tones of Home, Soak and Skinned, so knew that was coming!! We were just singing our booties off right there on the sidewalk. Travis came out after awhile, he stayed close to the door and there I was clear at the other end of that long hallway. I was nervous to say anything, someone was with him but I knew I'd regret it...so I said "Travis! Hi! It's my birthday, wanna come say hi to me?" He came trucking right down that hallway and gave me a big hug, said Happy Birthday at least three times and talked to us for a good five minutes...all about how he got into the band, which of course I knew the story but it was good to hear it from him. I got to tell him how I had known Shannon when we were teenagers, and to clarify that I am a Shannon Hoon fan for sure, and also a huge Blind Melon fan! He was soooo sweet and said that he would try to give me a shout out during the concert! After he left, here came Brad, followed by Rogers, Christopher and finally Glen. I used the "It's my birthday!" line everytime to reel 'em in and it worked! Just playing! Truly was my birthday and the best one ever!! I could give a play by play, but as you all can see I am pretty windy and it would take up 20 feet! Verbalpocketplay: You're an Angel!! Wish I could've met you in person, shoulda said something I way would've recognized your name on here, which is how I met and bonded with Zack (ottomelon). Forum members rock!! I'm gonna post some pics now!
