Oooh, what just happened to me better not happen with this journal-- I'm in the process of stretching my labret piercing. In the last couple of weeks, I've gone from a 14g to a 12g, and working now on a 10g-- BUT I can't wear the jewelry at work. I've been ordering the appropriate size of clear plastic retainers each time I get a new size of jewelry, so I can keep up my stretching efforts during working hours too. The damned Post Office has lost my latest set of retainers! Now my little lip is sore all the time from the constant stretching and restretching, all because I can't keep a constant size on it. Dammit all! Anyway... I hope our precious book will be safe in all its travels!
P.S. Hopefully, by the time I meet y'all at the vigil, I'll have a great BIG hole in my face, lol! I don't know why such a gruesome-sounding idea sounds so appealing to me, but I love it!

Ya know what's funny about that^ ... When I had my nipples pierced, I wanted to get different rings. I started with 14g. So, I figured I'd buy some spikes online... I saw a cool pair, cheap... And they were 12g. I thought since the G was smaller, they would fit. When they came in the mail, obviously I knew they were bigger. LOL ... I had to force those things in there... It was almost like getting re-pierced.

I hope it doesn't get lost either.. I will hunt down the post office people and demand that they put out a search for it. haha

Both of those piercing experiences sound a little painful. Ouch! Matt, wasn't Joe just talking about that the other night? Peeps stretching their earlobes out or something? lol.
(I haven't ventured out into the piercing world yet, oh well... I am still trying to figure out something fitting for a wrist tat. I think that is where I would start)

Ow, yeah, if you didn't happen to know about the whole reverse-number issue... yeah. Have you seen the people who go all the way to 0g? I think there are even 00 ones, too. You could stick your fingers through the holes! I don't think I could ever take it that far. And I do have the Post Office on a quest to track down my package, lol! I was in the Postmaster's office yesterday after work, standing over him while he pecked away at his computer... He got all my contact info and promised to get ahold of me as soon as he figures out what the hell happened!

When I used to be a body piercer I had to stretch people's ears. It was pretty weird. I have a few stories I could tell you about ear stretching. I used to have 12 guages in my earlobes but I never ventured any larger than that. My ex-husband had a ton of piercings all over his body and they were all stretched to big guages. I honestly thought it was gross because once you start stretching your piercings to fit big guage jewelry, it gets REALLY smelly. I won't go into that any further unless somebody asks...

Why is that exactly? Do tell us Sonya.

I was told that the smell comes from something called sebum that your body produces naturally. I just went and looked it up on wikipedia so I could explain it better. Sebum is produced in our glands and it is an oily substance that protects our skin and hair from drying and cracking. When sebum breaks down it can produce odors because of bacteria that develops. I guess the body produces an excess amount of sebum when you stretch your skin open (probably because you are cracking your skin apart at that location) and as it breaks down it starts to stink like nothing you have ever smelled before. I'll put it to you this way...if you knew someone who had a big guage piercing and they were sitting across a room from you and took their jewelry out of their body, it might smell so bad that you would want to throw up even from 10-20 feet away. If you were right next to them and they removed the jewelry from their body, it would be exponentially worse. Sometimes you can smell it just from standing near a person who has a lot of big guage piercings/ear stretches. It's a rotten, foul stench and you will never forget it once you have experienced it.

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. It's truly funky, and not in a good way. The only plus to this is that it doesn't seem to happen with piercings in the mouth. I don't know if it's because there's saliva, which has some antiseptic qualities, or if it's just the nature of the skin in that area, but I'm glad!!! I sure as hell wouldn't want that funk going on a couple of inches beneath my nose. By the way-- I'm successfully wearing my 10g right now! As soon as it's fully healed I'd like to go on to an 8, but I think it's going to be harder to find labrets in that size. People don't seem to stretch that one as much as others.

charity, are you going to get one of those hollow plugs for your labret so people can see through your lip into your mouth?

Yes! How'd ya know? I have to see how big I can go-- I have to be able to disguise it for work at least somewhat by wearing my retainers, so we'll have to see how well that works when I get into the bigger sizes. But yeah, I love the idea of the "flesh tunnel" in that location!
