I can't believe we don't have a thread for them yet! Greg, how could you let this happen! Maybe's just the search option not working good Anyhoons, my dad had a few old GD LPs (along with all the rest of LPs from that period) and when I was a kid I didn't like them too much, in the past years they were slowly growing on me and now I'm starting to LOVE it! ;D I only have The very best of for now, it's a start, I want to listen to it for awhile to get the most out of the songs, then I'll get other albums Listening to Ripple right now, one of my favorites

Yes! I really like them, although I feel I need to listen to more of their discography! I would assume there's a thread somewhere, considering Blind Melon were inspired by them. At the moment, I've only been listening to American Beauty, Anthem Of The Sun, Aoxomoxoa, Blues For Allah, In The Dark and Live/Dead. Does anyone have any recommendations of anything else? ;D You should check out those Barb (they cover 1968 - 1975, with the exception of In The Dark which is 1987) My favorites are Aoxomoxoa and American Beauty.

I can't believe we don't have a thread for them yet! Greg, how could you let this happen! I never created one on purpose in fear that the thread would be very one-sided and greg heavy I have always preferred Live Grateful Dead over the studio stuff I can offer A LOT of recommendations but I will take baby steps Barb...after you have got your fill of the current GD CD you are listening to, you might want to try 'Without A Net' on for size (its a double CD) There is an Excellent version of 'Cassidy' on it '89 - '90 time period Another Excellent one to pick up (which features a beautiful 'Sugaree' on it) is Dick's Picks Vol. 3 May 22, '77 (many fans believe that May of '77 was the best month of their entire career) I wont leave you empty handed tho....right click here, save link as... to hear 05/15/1977 5/15/77 - Grateful Dead St. Louis Arena - St. Louis, MO

I am definitely a Jerry fan when it comes to the Dead. I am not a big fan of Bobby's songs, but I do like a few.
If I was going to make a Dead mix cd, here are my favorites that I would put on it...
Brokedown Palace High Time Loser Ripple Scarlet Begonias Sugaree Sugar Magnolia Friend of the Devil Fire on the Mountain St Stephen Jack Straw Eyes of the World

I like the Grateful Dead. I have tried to think of something to say about them, but where would I start, y'know? They have so much depth, because their fans can have a favorite musician or songwriter and also have a favorite era of their live performances. My favorite album is probably either 'Workingman's Dead' or 'American Beauty' or maybe 'Reckoning'. Favorite songs is a tough one for me. . . . . . Cumberland Blues, Easy Wind, Not Fade Away, Turn on Your Lovelight, Me & My Uncle, Monkey & the Engineer, The Race is On, etc. I like Jerry's songs as well as Bob's songs . . . The Dead song that I like the least is the "900,000 tons of steel". My least favorite album is "Infra-Red Roses." Least favorite member of the Dead: Mickey Hart. Like I said, the cool thing is that they have lots of different music and different phases, so it's a convenience to be able to not like some of it, and to really appreciate the rest. . .

I know there's too many of them to tell but which songs are Jerry's and which Bob's? Like I said, I'm kinda new to GD and I never put much interest in them before, I thought Hunter wrote mostly all the lyrics and then the band or Jerry put them into songs together. btw, that's too many different recommendations now, where will I begin?
