Thanks for the info and the link! We saw Scott perform that song (it's called Greensboro Woman) when we saw them in Greensboro, NC back in 2007. It was an amazing performance to say the least. We videotaped that entire show from around 5th row center and eventually we're going to get it transferred to a dvd....we've had software issues in getting the tape successfully transferred. Eventually that will be a treat for you guys when it's finally finished. We bought tickets to another Avett show yesterday. Greg and my oldest son both have birthdays coming up and on their birthday weekend the Avetts are playing at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach which is all ages and only about 3 hours away. We are going to surprise my son with a trip to the beach and an Avett show. He just got an mp3 player about a month ago and he requested that we put the entire Avett catalog on it. His favorite song right now is Pretty Girl From Cedar Lane. I think he'll really appreciate seeing them now that he's really getting into them on his own.

Lol, they totally have a way of sucking you in, don't they? I have heard of a lot of people who have been inspired to pick up the banjo thanks to Scott Avett showing the world how much it can rock. Banjo companies should give him a cut of all the money they're making because of him.

Did anyone download "Laundry Room" and "Kick Drum Heart" and can hook me up? It's only available for US right now I'll buy the album when it comes out anyway.

I ordered a deluxe box as well. Hopefully I was within the first 1000 (I ordered Friday night after we got back to the hotel after the show). I would love to have the signed print of the album cover. I'm really excited about the vinyl, I hope eventually they release the back catalog on vinyl. By the way, they actually do charge your card right away. My purchase has already posted to my account. We had a great time in Richmond and Roanoke! I finally got to hear Seth play In the Curve! We also heard some other songs for the first time live that we've been waiting for like Nothing Short of Thankful, Complaint D'vn Montelot Mourant, A Gift for Melody Anne, and St. Joseph's. Here's a pic from after the Roanoke show. ;D We'll see them again in Myrtle Beach next weekend! I'm excited!

Ok so I heard some of their stuff a while back thanks to Sonya. Ive been putting it off but now I'm finally ready to fully dive in. What CD should I buy first? I have the worlds longest commute and can listen to a full CD on the way to work generally.

All of the cd's are great (imo) but my absolute personal favorite is "Four Thieves Gone". "Emotionalism" and "Mignonette" are also good places to start. "Emotionalism" is their latest full-length release and it will be most representative of their current sound. Their sound has evolved quite a bit over the past few years. They also have two EP's - "The Gleam" and the "Second Gleam" that have a lot of great songs on them. Their newest album is about to drop in the end of September and it's called "I and Love and You". You totally should have come to the VA shows with us! I think you and Neil should take a little vacation down to Myrtle Beach next weekend and see the Avetts with us...

Thanks Sonya, I was looking at their CD's and they have a lot more out than I thought and I was clueless as to where to start! This gives me an idea of where to go first. I hate being so late in the game! I wish we could due Myrtle but someones sister is going to be in town that weekend so we must devote our time to her.

I feel that way too Mere, I am a BIG music fan since my earliest memories... and i never heard of them til i was here on this board. radio around here sux, even independant streaming web radio i still hadnt heard them. I feel like the NOOB, but there have been some really great fans/people at the shows that i've come to know a bit. I started with Emotionalism, and the Gleam I and II... because thats all the "chain" store had. Then i got ahold of a couple of live boots... and OMG i HAD TO HAVE EVERYTHING! Emotionalism is really good for giving you some more current sound, and some incredible songwriting... and a "glimpse" of some of the earlier style. the GLEAM EP's are meant to be a bit softer and mellow. overall, i dont think you can go wrong... but i think sonya hit it really good in the sense of maybe Emotionalism, and then if you LIKE the earlier, more "bluegrassy" type stuff on it.... Four Theives. if you end up liking the soft/sentimental stuff much more.. then head for the gleam and gleam II. oh.. just get 'em all! (or at least whats available).

YAY Mere!! It;s just a matter of time now before you can't stop listening Btw, Emotionalism was the first official album I got too and to be honest I didn't like it at first. Then again I had already heard and gotten hooked on them from the mix cd's Sonya had made me and I could appreciate and relate to the earlier bluegrassy stuff so much more. To this day I still prefer that over Emotionalism, The Gleams, etc. But Emotionalism did grow on me eventually, it's a great album!

I listened to some of it on Amazon before I bought it, they have pretty much everything on Amazon....I'm really excited to get it as I love some of the "Blue Grass" sound I heard on the song demos.

Emotionalism had to grow on me too. I definitely liked it when it first came out, but not half as much as the previous releases. However, now I love it and it's one of my all-time favorite albums. I wish they would have included In the Curve on Emotionalism instead of making it a bonus track on itunes. That is one of their best songs ever. I have a feeling "I and Love and You" is going to be a shock for a lot of people. I have heard 6 of the new songs so far and as a whole I think these songs rock a lot more than previous albums. Not surprising since the guys are rock fans and have previously been in rock bands. It's kind of crazy to see them up on stage with Scott on drums, Seth on keys, Bob on electric bass, and Joe on cello. I can't help but think that if a few years ago you had shown a picture of that to a hardcore Avett fan they would would wonder "who is this fourth member and why are they plugged in?". Personally, I love seeing them evolve and push their own boundaries.
