Vernie's name is Vernelle and so is Nel's. That's why Vernie is Vernie and Nel is Nel. Nel is the oldest of 5 girls so was named after her mother.

That is so special! Thanks for the update too I kinda wish I were named after someone... anyone here named after someone? (Maybe that should be another thread...doh!) but might be neat to find out little things like that.

What are the trophies (in one of the photos) for? I assume football, pole vaulting, running etc. (?)

Shannon was very athletic. My Vintage Melon (there you are! I found you) up there knows this too and maybe all of you do, I don't know. . . but Nel was really surprised that Shannon didn't end up going to college on a football scholarship. But she said when she heard him singing Change (she was just coming home, and heard him singing it from a neighbor's house I believe her story went . . . ), she said she KNEW he was incredibly gifted. Also, I really don't think she'd mind my sharing this story, but Shannon is one tough guy. He once broke his ankle before a wrestling match, and his dad took him straight from the ER to the wrestling match. Shannon made his dad tell the coach he was fine to wrestle. Not only did he wrestle - but he won of course. GOD LOVE SHANNON HOON!!!
