Hey everyone. I have been on this site for about four months now and before that I used to view it for quite some time. I am 23 years old and unfortunately missed the first run of Blind Melon. That is perhaps one of my biggest regrets to this day. The first day that I heard about Blind Melon was my sophomore year of high school. I remember like it was yesterday. We were sitting in an independent study class where no one ever does anything and you talk about the latest gossip and there it was on MTV the music video for "No Rain". I fell in love the first time I saw it. I immediately went home and researched the band on the internet and was very sad to see that shannon was no longer alive and the band was basically deceased.
These past ten years I have collected all of the albums and dvd's and some other memorabilia. I carry them around everywhere I go in my ipod. My final course in college was a music appreciation course in the spring of 2007. I chose to do my paper and presentation on Blind Melon. It was amazing as I incorporated their short yet influential career with aspects of my life. Their music is absolutely amazing and even though I never had a chance to experience it during their initial run I am glad that the Lord has blessed me with the opportunity now.
The day after I gave my presentation, I was surfing the net and to my surprise there it was Blind Melon Reunites!!! The past year has been filled with many great experiences. My girlfriend and I have visited Shannon's grave, which left me with a feeling that I can not describe. Not so much a sad feeling, but one of tribute and honor towards a lyrical genius, a truly fascinating and genuine person that has touched the lives of so many. I still can not watch letters from a porcupine without tears coming to my eyes.
We have also traveled five and a half hours to the canopy club for the most amazing concert I have ever seen. Afterward we met the band and did the pictures and autograph thing which was truly amazing. They are by far the coolest guys in the world. Not only did we meet the band, but also Nel Hoon!!! Shannon's mother is a sweet heart and words can not describe how wonderful of a person she is. Recently, I have spoken with her over the phone and shared cards over the holidays and hope to see her again this fall at Shannon's Vigil. I look forward to the new album as well as meeting some new friends.
Last but not least, I have become a part of this forum, which has given me the opportunity to share my thoughts with all of you wonderful people and I am very thankful for that.
Peace, Love, & Melons
