hey so i start this up haven't done any tabs before but you know the deal, it won't be that hard. actually this song is not too hard when you find out the tuning, which is quite easy because of the video anyways....
if find ways to do it better please correct anything, maybe together we will get the whole song tabbed
the tuning is what I would call "double drop D" from high to low (just drop the D-strings to D) D B G D A D
the verse cord progression goes like this Gm Cm F Dm
(the tricky part is it's not exactly just those cords, but I don't know how to name them better they look like this) Gm Cm F Dm -0 -x -3 -x -3 -3 -3 -x -3 -3 -5 -8 -5 -1 -3 -(10) -x -3 -3 -x -x -x -3 -x
first tavis starts with fingerpicking, then he goes into the cool cut up rhythm (just watch the video)
the chorus D# Dm (twice as long as the verse cords) -1 -x -1 -x -3 -x -1 -0 -1 -0 -1 -0
I am not sure if the Dm (in the chorus is correct cuz in the video Travis is high up on the fretboard, but it's definetely Dm)
then there is the bridge and I have absolutely no clue how to play it, it's this melon magic again, everbody seems to play something different, still it all fits plus rogers guitar part is serious buisness once again (as usual)
I really hope we will get the song together, so help me out on this..

Wow, thanks! I was wondering about it the other day, where I could get the chords for this, I'm bad at figuring out the chords by ear so I doubt I'll be able to help you with the bridge.
When you said "just drop the D-strings to D" you meant "drop the E-strings to D, no? That's how it looks.

All I can say is that I hate the fact that the remaining members of Blind Melon tried to replace Shannon Hoon. How is that possible? It is most definitely not possible. Just accept your losses and do your best as alleged professional musicians and just move on. Everyone in the band is extremely talented, so don't try to ride any coat tails into success. Possibly change the name of the band or do something, just don't leave the greatest singer of all time's name out to pasture. You all can do anything you want, but don't try to replace the lead singer. It will never go over to well with the public in my opinion.

No need to add fuel to the fire after a post that occured 5-6 months ago. There was a reason no one responded.

Not positive, but I think the turning he's using is actually DADGAD, so crank that B down to an A. Still haven't figured out how to play this yet, but just from listening to the "rehearsal version" that's what I gathered.
This is a great song, but I'm having a tough time coming up with the exact chords. Then you start throwing in Rogers kickass progression which clearly moves up and down the fretboard (since you hear a nice little slide between some of the chord changes). Anyway, it'll be a fun one when I figure it out.

Given that I'm changing the tuning up on everyone, I guess I'll throw out what I've come up with for Travis' intro. -0--0--0--0 -5--3--3--8 -3--3--2--10 -5--1--0--x -x--3--X--x -x--x--3--x The chords for the verse are a little different. He's playing with them a bit, adding a note or two to some of them. I'll post again when I come up with something else. Feel free to correct/criticize. I'm all about community.

My intention is not to take part in this fight, but I would note that the albums Blind Melon recorded always came with a liner note that read "All songs written by Blind Melon as One."
To me it seems that the intention of this simple phrase was to show unity within their group. Those guys were and are all about their group - not the individual.
So, after watching at Travis joining and then leaving the band, it seems to me only more important that the band AND their fans keep that statement in mind. The material they have released over the years is a mix of the tastes and influences of every band member. Listen closely, and you can hear it. Rogers is always doing his thing on the right, Chris on the left. Brad is always adding subtle but effective harmony to the lead vocals while ramming the bass down your god damn throat. Glenn knows when to come out in front and when to hide the rhythm in the background. Everyone in this band knows their role. Blind Melon, by definition, is an UNBELIEVABLY tight band. They move as a single organism.
So, while we all miss the fuck out of Shannon and wish they could find a frontman to stick around for good, there's no denying that Blind Melon did not belong to Shannon, nor would he have wanted it that way. And it won't belong to anyone single person as long as those of us who know continue to live. Blind Melon is a community - or maybe, better yet, a commune.
Everyone puts in their equal share, and we all motherfucking benefit.
That said, I really wish the guys would put out a tab book for the latest album. There's some good shit to be played on there, and the crazy tunings and whatnot are obviously throwing us all off.
Peace, Love, and Melon.
